On March 1-2, 2014, I exhibited at the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts. I was honored to receive the Mayor’s Award! The show was juried by Michael Komanecky, who is the Chief Curator of Farnsworth Art Museum. My photograph of Dead Lakes was selected and juried next to some of the finest art in the nation.
Dead Lakes 1 by Richard Auger. A storm approaches from behind. Mamiya 7II, Kodak Tmax 100, Tmax Developer. The show was blessed with beautiful weather and strong crowds. The art show staff was clearly passionate about making Gasparilla THE art show in Florida. Even the board of directors could be easily seen running around throughout the day making sure things run smoothly. Many of my loyal collectors drove far and wide to purchase my latest work, and several local businesses added my largest pieces to their front lobbies.
After the awards ceremony on Saturday night, selected artists and ‘friends of the art show’ were invited to a private viewing party in the Tampa Museum. Seeing my selected photo hanging on the museum wall was both humbling and motivating.
I couldn’t resist posing for a photo next to the Ferrari on display outside the museum. Nice car, but I’d rather spend it on a medium format digital!
My booth was jammed with art patrons the entire weekend. I haven’t seen this much enthusiasm for my images in a long time.
My booth was under some palm trees planted between bricks, and provided a little shade and a nice atmosphere for displaying my work.
Another shot of the crowds. They just kept coming!

Yes, no wonder a random old man was trying to pretend he was the artist as I was picking out one of your photographs to purchase. He was quite the character but luckily I figured out what was going on and eventually bought one of your photographs of the Suwannea River Valley 1. Love it and congrats on your award at the show!
LOL thats hilarious! Wow, never had that happen before. Thanks for commenting Amy, glad you liked the image!
Hi Richard
I am new to art festivals, doing my first next week at Ft Worth as Emerging artist…
i am trying to hang my photos similar to how your are and am really having a hard time finding
s hooks or something similar to hang from the top rod.
do you have any suggestions? keep looking at booth images as I have seen a flat hanger before but don’t remember which
site it was on.
any help would be appreciated! i am trying to do drop cloth walls rather than felt or grids.

Katherine, I use ProPanels’s cable hangers, but they only work well on heavy pieces (mine weight 35-45 pounds). They also sell the drapery hooks and flat hanger kit. Congrats on being an emerging artist this year and good luck!
